Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring 2 years of cardiac tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Primary cardiac and stroke unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes pre/post pacemaker and ICD implantation, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
- Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, with potential to surge to 6 patients
- Manages multiple cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone, with ability to titrate Cardizem drips
- Unit has a fast pace with 78-90 patient turnovers per week
- Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
- Unit may house COVID-positive patients using Opti-flow and BiPAP during surges
- Uses telemetry and pulse ox monitoring, high flow O2, and non-rebreather mask (palliative use only)
- Documentation and medication systems include Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
- Required to work weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- 36 hours per week only
- On-call requirement based on patient census
- Floating required within or near the facility
- Self-scheduling available with leadership oversight
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (hard requirement, no PCU substitution)
- Experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and cardiac drips required
- Experience with pre/post procedure cardiac patients and PCI required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- First-time travelers accepted only with 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
Additional Information
- Provide care for stable pre/post cardiac procedure patients including pacemaker/ICD implantation and cardiac catheterization
- Monitor and manage multiple cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Respond to rapid changes in patient census and unit surges
- Collaborate with team lead for admissions and discharges
- Unit orientation is 36 hours, with availability required every day during week one
- Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, are permitted along with facility-branded t-shirts
- Jackets must match uniform material and color; no crocs with holes allowed
- Accepts first-time travelers with required experience
- Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a lower rate
- Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO during first week of assignment
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
