Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PACU position at an oncology-focused academic medical center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of PACU experience and no first-time travelers.
Details
- Phase I PACU setting within a large academic cancer hospital
- Patient population is predominantly oncology, with acuity ranging from outpatient to ICU-level care
- Specialty surgical cases include flap reconstruction (ENT, breast, and other), thoracic, and neurosurgery
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Epic EMR — experience required
- 5x8-hour day shifts, with varying start times between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM (end times 8:00–9:00 PM)
- No weekends, no call, and no holiday requirements
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
- Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS
- Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required
- Current and consistent acute care experience in PACU within the last 12 months required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/management required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
- First-time travelers will not be considered
Additional Information
- Local candidates are accepted
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration and will be built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Former employees of this health system are eligible after a minimum 6-month separation from the facility; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly after signing — candidates outside of Ohio within driving distance will need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet to be completed urgently
- Multiple purchasable parking permit options are available on-site through CampusParc, ranging from budget surface lot access with shuttle service to 24/7 garage access

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
