Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in Oregon, requiring active OR licensure and multiple certifications including ACLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC.

Details

• Acute care emergency department setting with 7 beds (expanding to 14) in a smaller community hospital
• Trauma Level 4 facility — not a STEMI receiving center and not a designated stroke center
• High-volume ED treating approximately 60 patients per 24 hours, including traumas (~20/month), burns, water rescue, OB patients, orthopedic injuries, general surgical cases, and GI bleeds
• Patient ratios are 1:4–5 for non-acute patients and 2:1 for resuscitations, depending on acuity
• Common drips include heparin, pressors, and blood products; limited ICU holds with ICU team support available
• Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry strips; Mindray tele monitors in use; monitor techs notify RN of changes
• EMR is Epic
• Triage duties may be assigned to travelers with prior triage experience
• Nursing staff perform all EKGs and the majority of IV starts; phlebotomy available as a resource
• Respiratory Therapy is in-house 24/7; nurses may occasionally assist with breathing treatments
• X-ray and CT are directly adjacent to the ED; techs transport stable patients; RN accompanies unstable patients
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a schedule; schedule is manager-assigned
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• No call or standby requirement historically for travelers
• Floating to other units is not required but welcome if the traveler has experience in another area

Requirements

• Active Oregon (OR) RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and either PALS or ENPC (interchangeable)
• NRP is desired but not required; NIHSS and NRP may be obtained within 30 days of start (NRP class available at facility)
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Smaller community hospital experience preferred
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of approximately 2 shifts with an RN mentor during the first week; no paid orientation hours are structured beyond this
• 24-hour physician coverage; two providers on from 11a–11p utilizing both physicians and mid-levels
• Charge nurse and house supervisor are both present; charge nurse may take a patient assignment, including on nights
• Support staff includes CNAs, techs, a unit clerk, and sitters; one CNA is typically scheduled 11a–11p to assist
• No in-house security; dispatch can be contacted via internal dial if needed
• Voluntary psychiatric patients only; no licensed psych facility or dedicated seclusion rooms
• The facility does not have a Fast Track area currently, though one may be added with the planned expansion
• ER holds are intermixed within the department rather than a separate holding area
• Scrubs of any color are acceptable; clean and professional appearance required
• No face tattoos visible during shift; natural hair colors required
• First-time travelers are not preferred; previous travel nursing experience is expected
