Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a mixed acuity unit requiring 1+ years of ICU experience and AL or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Mixed acuity 18-bed unit including intermediate care and non-vented ICU level patients
- Patient population includes neurological and post-procedural cases such as post-TNK, neuro IR procedures, hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, VP shunt placements, craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, and continuous EEG monitoring
- Also treats respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
- RN to patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity, CNA ratio of 1:12
- Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs/Resparray monitors
- 12-hour day shifts on a 36/48 schedule, 7:00 AM start time, 36 standard hours per week
- 6-week schedule cycle with every other weekend rotation, occasional back-to-back weekends
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to like units/patient locations, including MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task (limit of 3), and ICU-ER/ICU holds
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
- First-time travelers accepted with 2 years of ICU experience
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
- Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, CVP monitoring, and hemodynamic line monitoring
- Experience with post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
- Experience managing titratable drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine
- Must be able to read and measure telemetry strips
Additional Information
- Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, and a dedicated resource nurse/educator
- 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available on the unit
- Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1+ years will receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday coverage expected per policy, though specific dates are not guaranteed prior to arrival
- Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates which require additional approval
- Any scrub color permitted
- Free parking available on campus and in the parking deck
- Candidates must live outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
- Former staff members must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
