Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring at least 1 year of PCU and 2 years of total acute care experience.
Details
- Mixed acuity surgical oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive diagnoses
- Care involves chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome management, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but may be up to 1:5
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
- Rotating 12-hour day/night contract option available where shift assignments may change every 4-week scheduling period based on department needs
- Floating required within scope of practice
- Uses Epic for computerized charting
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of total acute care nursing experience with at least 1 year of current PCU experience
- Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Experience with cardiac telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
- Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management preferred
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
- Tracheostomy care/management skills required
- Epic charting experience required
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second from a Charge RN or higher (no coworker references accepted)

- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- All permanent staff on the unit are PCU trained
- Come with a willingness to learn and grow your nursing practice
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
- Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
- RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing the contract, including travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or completion of a mailed fingerprinting packet if outside driving distance

Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
