Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Stepdown/ICU float position requiring at least 2 years of PCU/Stepdown/ICU experience, AHA certifications, and a valid SC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Position is based in a Stepdown unit with frequent floating to ICU and Med-Surg units — candidates must be comfortable working across all three settings
  • Patient ratios vary by unit: Stepdown 1:4-5, ICU 1:2, Med-Surg 1:5-6
  • 21-bed unit
  • Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • Holiday coverage expected in rotation with staff
  • Patient population includes vascular surgery (fem-pop, CEA), NSTEMIs, post-cardiac cath with intervention, CIWA (IVP Ativan), peritoneal dialysis, stable BiPAP, heated high-flow O2 <80%, home ventilators (Trilogy), wound care, and nebs
  • Non-titrating drips administered include Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, and Cardene
  • HD is performed in the Dialysis Department
  • EMR: Meditech (experience preferred but not required)

Requirements

  • Active SC or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications (AHA only): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU, Stepdown, or ICU experience required
  • ICU experience required — PCU/Stepdown nurses must also have ICU experience due to float requirements
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry, and post-cardiac cath care
  • Experience with wound care, feeding tube management, heparin protocols, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • Floating is required across Stepdown, ICU, and Med-Surg units within the same facility; floating is done in rotation with staff and in accordance with clinical experience and Joint Commission standards, including orientation to new units
  • Orientation is held every Wednesday
  • Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have been gone at least 1 year and must have left in good standing
  • RTO must be approved prior to assignment start; minimal to no RTO is preferred, particularly in the first weeks — any unapproved RTO will not be accommodated
  • Royal blue and white scrubs required
  • Travel experience is preferred but not required
  • Charge nurse experience is preferred
  • Community hospital experience is preferred
