Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN with a compact or ID RN license, at least 2.5 years of ED experience in a large urban hospital setting, for a 13-week evening/night shift assignment.
Details
- Level IV trauma center ER with STEMI Level I and Stroke Level II designation, currently working toward Level III trauma status
- Unit includes 45 beds, including 4 hallway spots, 4 vertical rooms, 1 trauma bay, 1 resuscitation bay, 1 cardiac room, and 4 psych rooms
- Separate triage area staffed by permanent staff; travelers do not triage
- ER holds are intermixed within the department rather than in a separate holding area
- Treats an average of 170 patients per day with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5
- Patient population includes both pediatric and adult patients presenting with stroke, STEMI, trauma, abdominal pain, and high-acuity ESI Level I conditions
- Pediatric patients are typically stabilized and transferred
- 24/7 in-house security and respiratory therapy support available
- RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting SpaceLabs cardiac monitors
- X-ray and CT available in the ER with overflow to main radiology department
- RNs, CNAs, and phlebotomy staff all draw labs
- Evening and night 12-hour shifts, including 1330, 1530, and 1930 start times, with a mix of PM start times only
- Weekend requirement of at least 4 shifts within a 6-week period (2 weekends total)
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- No call or standby requirements
- Rare floating requirement to sister ERs at Boise Medical Center or Nampa Medical Center
- Uses Epic EMR
- No blocked scheduling or special shift requests accommodated
Requirements
- Active RN license (ID or compact) required at time of consideration
- BSN required
- Minimum 2.5 years of Emergency Department experience required
- Experience in a larger urban hospital setting required
- Trauma experience preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, ENPC
- Epic EMR experience
- Must be comfortable managing common critical care drips such as Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Norepinephrine, Nitroglycerin, Versed, and Precedex
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Work alongside a care team that includes at least one physician and one advanced practice provider daily, with up to 6 providers on staff at peak times
- Charge nurse, assistant nurse manager, and administrative supervisor provide leadership support without taking patient assignments
- CNAs support the unit at a 1:5-9 ratio, performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care (excluding irrigation)
- Respiratory therapists are available 24/7 to manage ABGs, breathing treatments, and all RT equipment
- Providers handle splinting procedures
- One shift of unit-specific orientation is provided following hospital and Epic orientation
- No specific scrub color required, but professional and clean attire is expected
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- Permanent employees of the facility must be separated from employment for at least one year before applying for a travel assignment
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
