Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with strong NICU experience for a night shift position at a Level II Trauma Center, with rotation requirements across adult ICU, ED, and pediatric units.

Details

  • Short-term acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center with 431 staffed beds
  • Primary unit is NICU, with required rotation to adult ICU, stepdown units, ED, and pediatric units — this is not a NICU-only position
  • NICU assignments vary based on acuity
  • Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • Every other weekend required, plus every other holiday
  • On-call required: 3 shifts per 6-week scheduling period
  • Floating within the facility or nearby affiliated facilities required based on census and volume
  • Charting via Epic (required)
  • Block scheduling considered at manager's discretion
  • Scrub color: wine

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience per job description; 4 years noted in qualifications
  • Strong NICU skills required — float-to-NICU experience alone is not sufficient
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Level II Trauma Center experience required; Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Travel assignment experience required; first-time travelers are accepted
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, CRT — ACLS may be pending at start with a 90-day window to obtain
  • Preferred certifications: RRT, NRP
  • VA state license required; a temporary license or proof of application submitted alongside another state license (non-compact/non-national) may be accepted
  • License required if applicable
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills: airway management, medication administration, ABG draw and interpretation, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, BiPAP, CPAP, nebulizers
  • Required equipment experience: aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene and lung inflation therapies, CPAP/BiPAP, mechanical ventilation including SIMV and weaning, tracheostomy care
  • Neonatal/pediatric equipment experience: bubble CPAP, pressure/volume ventilators, intubation assist, neonatal inter-departmental transports
  • Proficiency with a wide range of inhaled medications including albuterol, racemic epinephrine, Perforomist, Pulmicort, and others
  • Preferred experience: NICU, ED, and adult ICU; experience in all three areas is not required

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene, lung inflation therapies, ABG draws and analysis, ventilator management, airway management, and patient care across NICU, adult ICU, ED, and pediatric units
  • Attendance at monthly department meetings is expected when scheduled; if not working, the traveler must review meeting minutes and send written acknowledgment to management
  • Up to 8 hours of pre-start modules must be completed within 1 week of signing via WorkRamp; modules are completed on the traveler's own time prior to the start date
  • RTO exceeding 7 days requires an extension of the assignment by an equivalent amount of time; all RTO must be disclosed upfront
  • RTO restrictions are at manager's discretion
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • Travelers who have previously worked at this facility must have been separated for at least 1 full year before returning; travelers who reach the 1-year limit during an active assignment must complete a full break before returning
  • Travel pairs may not both receive offers; if both are offered, matching schedules are not guaranteed
