Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a major academic cancer hospital in Ohio, requiring at least 2 years of OR experience and oncology background.
Details
- General OR setting within a large academic cancer hospital
- Surgical specialties include neuro, thoracic, ENT, orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, urology, GU/GYN, free flaps, and robotics (Da Vinci SP and Xi systems)
- Day/evening rotating schedule with a combination of 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
- Shift options run between 06:30–20:30, Monday through Friday
- On-call responsibilities required, including evening (15:00–23:00), night (23:00–07:00), and weekend (07:00–19:00 / 19:00–07:00) call shifts
- Weekend work required as needed
- EMR: Epic (required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Certifications required: BLS; ACLS and CNOR preferred
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Oncology experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Circulate and scrub experience preferred
- Experience in neuro, thoracic, ENT, ortho, general surgery, plastics, urology, GU/GYN, free flaps, and/or robotics (Da Vinci) preferred
- Teaching/academic hospital experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include circulating and scrubbing across a wide range of surgical specialties in an oncology-focused OR environment
- Skills utilized include cardiac monitoring, laser and radiation safety, specimen handling, universal protocol/time-out procedures, infection control, and emergency management (code response, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergy protocols)
- Ohio fingerprinting is required upon signing the contract and must be completed urgently — candidates outside of Ohio who are within driving distance will need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location; those at greater distances will be mailed a fingerprinting packet
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer
- Former employees of this health system are eligible after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Parking permits are available for purchase on-site through CampusParc, with multiple pricing tiers and access options

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
