Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float position at an academic Level I Trauma center in Madison, WI, requiring multi-ICU experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Critical Care Float role covering multiple ICU units including Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Burn ICU, Trauma Surgery ICU, and Surgical ICU, as well as IMC/Progressive/General care populations
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • Every other weekend required
  • Some holiday coverage required
  • Floating to multiple units is required as needed
  • Epic EMR required; experience within the past 12 months preferred
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation is a core component of the role
  • Key procedures and skills include arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, CVVHD/CRRT, pulmonary artery line/Swan-Ganz monitoring, and titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips
  • Cardiovascular skills such as ECMO, Impella, IABP, and post-cardiac surgery care are preferred but not required
  • Neurological care experience includes CVA/stroke management, ICP monitoring, EVD, lumbar drains, TBI, and post-neurosurgery management

Requirements

  • Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required — American Heart Association (AHA) only
  • NIHSS and TNCC certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care ICU experience within the past 3 years required
  • 5 years of ICU experience preferred
  • Prior experience in an academic Level I Trauma center required
  • Travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must pass a telemetry exam prior to start (see additional information for details)
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, blood product administration, ABG interpretation, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • A telemetry exam must be passed before the assignment begins — candidates have two attempts; the adult exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole), no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions, and an overall passing score of 80% or higher; the pediatric exam requires identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia with a passing score of 80% or higher
  • If a candidate fails the second attempt, they must submit a certificate of completion from a cardiac interpretation review course before a third attempt is granted; failure of all three attempts will result in assignment cancellation
  • This is a Magnet®-designated academic teaching hospital and nationally recognized referral center
  • Parking on-site requires a permit through UW Transportation; alternative options include bus, park and ride, and private parking
