Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Critical Care Float position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic teaching hospital in Madison, WI, requiring multi-ICU experience and prior travel experience.

Details

• Critical Care Float position covering multiple ICU settings including Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Burn ICU, Trauma/Surgical ICU, CVICU, and MICU
• Also covers IMC, Progressive, and general care patient populations
• Day/Evening shifts, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:30
• Every other weekend required
• Some holiday coverage required
• Epic EMR required; experience within the past 12 months preferred
• Floating to different ICU units required as needed
• High-acuity patient population including multi-system organ failure, traumatic brain injury, post-cardiac surgery, ECMO, and ventilated patients
• Procedures and equipment include arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring, IABP, Impella, ECMO, CVVHD/CRRT, EVD, ICP monitoring, and lumbar drains
• Respiratory management includes ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ABG interpretation
• Medication responsibilities include titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips, continuous IV sedation/paralytics, and IV insulin protocols

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS — American Heart Association (AHA) only
• Preferred certifications: NIHSS, TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of acute care ICU experience within the last 3 years
• 5 years of ICU experience preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Experience in an academic Level I Trauma Center required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
• Must pass a telemetry exam prior to start (details below)

• Candidates must pass a telemetry exam before being cleared to start; two attempts are allowed
• Adult telemetry exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole), no incorrect answers on 3rd-degree heart block questions, and an overall passing score of 80% or higher
• Pediatric telemetry exam requires identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia, with a passing score of 80% or higher
• If the second attempt is failed, a certificate of completion from a cardiac interpretation review course must be submitted before a third attempt is granted; failure on the third attempt will result in assignment cancellation
• Charge nurse experience is preferred
• Onsite parking requires a permit through UW Transportation; bus, park & ride, and private parking options are also available
