Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Critical Access Hospital in a rural California setting, with call requirements and EOW scheduling.

Details

• Acute care Operating Room position at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in a rural environment
• Small OR department consisting of 2 OR suites and 1 Endo suite
• Typical case volume ranges from 1–6 OR cases per day, plus up to 12 colonoscopies per day 3 days/week, and pain management cases 2–3 days/week
• Common case types include general surgery, orthopedics, GYN, endoscopy, and pain management
• Patient ratio is 1:1 in the OR and 1:2 in recovery (PACU)
• May be required to float to recovery; dedicated pre-op nurses are on staff, some cross-trained for endo
• OR techs are on staff and the charge nurse takes assignment
• Charting system is MEDITECH
• Schedule is 5x8-hour shifts (0645–1515) with staggered start times, working every other weekend (EOW)
• First to float when census requires
• Weekday call begins at or after 3:15 PM (end of surgical day); RNs typically take 6–8 call shifts per month with a minimum of 96 hours of call per month
• Weekend call is 24-hour call on a Friday and Saturday rotation
• Holiday coverage is 24-hour call, divided among staff
• Call response time required within 45 minutes

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS required; ACLS required if working both OR and PACU — ACLS preferred for strictly OR assignments
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
• Experience in a CAH or rural hospital setting is beneficial given the work environment
• MEDITECH EMR experience preferred
• A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
• Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must be comfortable working in a rural hospital environment
• Endoscopy experience is preferred, as is experience in recovery (PACU) and/or pre-op; orientation to recovery will be provided if needed, or the nurse may not be required to work that area
• Floor orientation consists of 3 shifts
• Scrubbing is preferred for RNs in this role
• Hospital-provided scrubs are available
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
