Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a comprehensive stroke center, requiring 2 years of strong neuro critical care experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Work in the Neuro ICU of a comprehensive stroke center
  • Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
  • Patient ratios of 2:1, flexing up to 3:1 during high census, with an average daily census of 11-12
  • Utilizes EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, Camino ICP monitoring, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of strong Neuro ICU experience required (general ICU or floating experience does not qualify)
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Skills required include ventilator management, IV starts, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, lumbar drain experience, and isolation precautions/PPE use
  • Arterial line management experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a complex neuro/stroke patient population, including post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgical management
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or 2 nights
  • Navy blue and white scrubs required
  • Must complete online pre-start and annual training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Additional RTO requests after signing are not permitted
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
  • 13-week contracts accepted through the end of February; 36-hour shifts may be offered
