Description

American Traveler is hiring a Whole House Float RN for ICU/PCU/MS units requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and comfort floating across all three specialties.

Details

• Whole House Float role covering ICU, PCU, and MS units within an acute care teaching hospital
• Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM (4x12 schedules available upon request)
• Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating between units may occur 2-3 times per shift
• Unit ratios average 2:1 in ICU, 5:1 in PCU, and 6:1 in MS (may flex up to 7:1)
• Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
• Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract (2 holidays required during winter holiday period)
• EPIC charting system experience required

Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for single-state non-compact candidates)
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or II trauma facility
• Experience with ratios of at least 1:5 required
• Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration
• Skilled in trach management, non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP), ventilator management, and chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation/management and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG preferred
• Experience with IV insulin protocols and infection prevention/isolation precautions preferred
• Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Charge experience preferred

• Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
• Comfortable working across three distinct specialty units (ICU, PCU, MS) is essential
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted, though radius-based eligibility and pay rate rules apply
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
