Description
American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Stepdown RN with strong cardiac/vascular experience for a nights position requiring drip titration skills and telemetry unit familiarity.
Details
- Work in the acute care Cardiac Stepdown unit (10SE Heart & Vascular Institute) of a hospital
- 32-bed unit with all private rooms (22 stepdown, 12 floor beds)
- Stepdown ratio of 1 RN to 3 patients; floor ratio of 1 RN to 6 patients
- Care for cardiac surgery post-op patients (CABG, mid cabs, maze, valve replacements, TAVRs, LVAD, heart transplants) and vascular surgery patients (AAA repair, CEA, femoral bypass, amputations)
- Care for cardiology patients including STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, and cardiac cath procedures (PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, pacemakers)
- Titrate drips including Heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, and dobutamine
- Unit has Certified Monitor Techs who interpret telemetry strips
- Uses respiratory equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and Hi-flow
- Supported by Unit Charge Nurses and House Supervisors 24/7, with Clinical Associates at a 1:8-10 ratio
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, three per week, with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required
- Floating required to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
- No call or standby requirement, though overtime is available
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Cardiac/vascular nursing experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Driver's license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to complex cardiac and vascular surgery patients as well as cardiology patients requiring telemetry monitoring
- Unit is recognized for delivering excellent, quality patient care within a collaborative teamwork environment
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts
- Dress code requires solid royal blue and white scrubs
- Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers
- Previous travelers who completed a full year must have a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
