Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg night shift position requiring dedicated neuro unit and Level 1 trauma experience.
Details
- Work in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit of a 54-bed hospital department
- Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with occasional medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Nurse aide/PCT support at ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
- Charge nurse and house supervisor on-site 24/7, with charge nurse only taking assignments when short-staffed
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors, so RNs are not required to read their own strips
- Occasional use of high-flow oxygen equipment for stable COVID patients
- RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts on a single shift schedule
- Required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required within the general unit float pool, with limited floating outside the unit only for urgent needs and matching skill competency
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Heparin drip titration experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience required
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to neuroscience patients, including drip titration and monitoring
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 days covering computer systems and unit specifics with an educator, plus 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
- No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- Local candidates accepted, with local rate applying to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
