Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details
- Work on a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Care for patients with stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Night shift schedule with 4x12-hour shifts per week
- Required to titrate drips including Heparin gtt based on PTT
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
- Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
- House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors means RNs are not required to read strips
- High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Required to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts)
- Every other holiday coverage required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floats within the general unit in rotation with staff; floats outside the unit only for urgent needs and only for skills-competent tasks
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Heparin gtt titration experience required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a dedicated neuro med-surg unit, including drip titration and monitoring
- Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days with an educator covering computer systems and unit specifics, plus 1 day caring for patients with a preceptor
- No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius of the facility are eligible for a local rate
- No radius rule restricts eligibility for this position
- Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of facility's Drug-Free Campus policy
- COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
