Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Orthopedic RN for a Level 1 trauma hospital, requiring an active IL RN license and 1-2 years of postoperative surgical/med-surg experience.

Details

• Work in a 43-bed all-private-room Orthopedic unit within an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital
• Care for a diverse patient population including med-surg, postoperative orthopedic, and trauma cases with fractures
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on day shift and 1:5-6 on night shift, both 12-hour shifts
• PCT support available at a 1:7-8 ratio
• Unit utilizes CPAP and heated high-flow respiratory equipment as needed, with RNs troubleshooting as required
• House-wide Philips telemetry pack monitors used, with dedicated tele/monitor techs
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend (Sat/Sun days or Fri/Sat nights)
• No call or standby requirement
• Travel RNs float first when needed, typically to similar Med/Surg units
• Primary charge RN on each shift plus 24/7 house supervisor coverage

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred, with focus on postoperative surgical and general med-surg care
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Negative drug screen required for all panels due to Drug-Free Campus policy
• Professional appearance required with tattoos and piercings covered

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for postoperative orthopedic and trauma patients in a Level 1 trauma acute care setting
• Two unit/department-specific orientation sessions included
• 12 hours of non-billable orientation required before guaranteed hours apply
• Any color of scrubs permitted as long as professional appearance standards are maintained
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
• COVID vaccination is not required for this position
