Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med Surg position on night shift, requiring an active IL RN license and 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Trauma Level 2 facility
• Med Surg unit with 37 beds, combination of private and semi-private rooms
• Patient population includes COPD, sepsis, CVA, COVID, pneumonia, and surgical cases (hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections)
• Patient ratios: Night shift 1:5-6, Day shift 1:4-6
• CNA support at 1:10-15 ratio
• Charge nurse typically available 24/7 and may take patient assignments as needed
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7:30a
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• May require working every other holiday depending on schedule
• No call requirement
• May float to other floors based on competency, taking a full patient assignment when floating
• Unit accepts telemetry patients, monitored by central monitor tech with floor visualization available
• Common drips include Lasix and Heparin
• No ventilators on unit, but BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow patients are cared for
• In-house hospitalist coverage during day shift, with APN and eHospitalist coverage at night
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy on-site during the day with ePharmacist availability overnight
• No IV team on unit

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med Surg unit with a diverse case mix including respiratory, surgical, and neurological diagnoses
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2 days in the department and 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation
• No specific scrub color required; approved OSF logo gear may be worn with scrub pants
• Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule restricts eligibility for this position
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
