Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN ECMO Specialist for a pediatric hospital requiring an active CA license, PALS/BLS certification, and ECMO experience.

Details

  • Work as an ECMO Specialist within a children's hospital setting
  • May float between CTICU, PICU, and NICU wherever ECMO patients are located
  • Variable 3x12 shifts covering both day (7:00-19:00) and night (19:00-7:00) schedules
  • Must be flexible to work either day or night shifts as needed
  • Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
  • No on-call responsibilities required
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Any scrub color permitted

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required (or ETA for pending license required at time of submission)
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required
  • 2 years of pediatric ICU nursing and 1 year of ECMO experience preferred; candidates with strong ECMO training and adult ICU background will also be considered
  • Skills needed include IV therapy, arterial line management, and central line care
  • Respiratory skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
  • Medication management skills required: continuous IV sedation, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Cardiovascular skills required: ECMO management, post cardiac surgery care, cardiac monitoring, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Proficiency in isolation precautions and PPE required

Additional Information

  • Monitor and adjust the extracorporeal circuit to ensure adequate organ perfusion and oxygenation for ECMO patients
  • Troubleshoot and replace malfunctioning ECMO circuit components, including in emergent situations
  • Administer fluids and blood products via the extracorporeal circuit under physician direction
  • Monitor and maintain anti-coagulation per ordered guidelines
  • Assist with progressive mobility for ECMO patients
  • Facility is a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital, Magnet recognized, and a Beacon Award recipient
  • Required to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Maximum RTO of 6 days must be confirmed upfront at time of submission
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before being eligible to travel
