Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring comfort working across all ICU and PCU units with a VA or compact RN license.

Details

• Float role covering all ICU and PCU units within an acute care teaching hospital
• PCU average patient ratio of 5:1 and ICU average ratio of 2:1
• Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, so floating may occur 2-3 times per shift
• Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
• EPIC charting experience required

Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required in hand, unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CPI certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
• Experience at a large Level I/II trauma facility required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, and IV initiation/maintenance
• Respiratory support skills including BiPAP/CPAP management and ventilated patient care
• Experience with medication administration including continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Wound care experience with surgical wounds, drains, and wound vacs
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• IV insulin protocol experience
• Previous charge experience preferred

• Provide direct patient care across ICU and PCU units, adapting to varying patient acuity and ratios
• Work within a 703-bed acute care teaching hospital that is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients
• Facility is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
• Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center

• Local candidates may be accepted under specific radius rules based on distance from the facility
• Previous employees, whether per diem or permanent, must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment at this facility are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, though exceptions may be reviewed case-by-case
• All requested time off, block scheduling, or special scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
• Facility may cancel up to 1 shift per 2-week period
