Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III NICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years NICU experience and WI or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the NICU of a Level IV Trauma Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI
  • 42-bed Level III NICU unit
  • Cares for high-risk, critically ill preterm and term newborns requiring multi-system support
  • Patient population includes infants on respiratory support (nasal cannula, CPAP, NAVA, conventional and oscillator ventilation, nitric oxide)
  • Manages central lines including PICC, UAC, UVC, arterial lines, Broviac, and chest tubes
  • Provides NG/PO feedings, IV therapy, vasopressor support, sedation and paralytics, video EEG, and cooling
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3, following AWHONN staffing standards
  • EMR: EPIC
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Angel Eye milk tracker, GE B450 cardiac monitoring, Medela feeding pumps, and Artic Sun cooling system
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, options for 3x12s (36 hrs) or 4x12s (48 hrs)
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No set schedule; travelers plugged in where needed
  • Floating required to Women's Care Center for newborn care only, with travelers floated first
  • No on-call requirements
  • Rotating holiday coverage based on start date

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years Level III NICU experience required, no exceptions
  • Minimum 12 months of core experience in the specialty within the last year
  • Skilled in assessment/reassessment, IV therapy, medication administration, and NG/PO feedings
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Collaborate with ancillary departments and parents to provide exceptional, family-centered care to infants
  • Support on the unit includes 24/7 charge nurse, respiratory therapy, and neonatologist coverage
  • Additional support from a House Supervisor, Women's Health Director, NICU Nurse Manager, and NICU Nurse Educator
  • Access to Lactation Consultants, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Case Management, Pharmacy, Dietician, and Chaplain services
  • Orientation includes a first-day meeting with the Nurse Manager and Educator followed by unit training
  • Second day includes preceptor-led training, with an assigned work buddy and own patient assignment by day three
  • Scrub color is open, professional attire required with no denim or camo
  • Free parking provided in designated employee areas
  • First-time travelers may be considered pending manager approval
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before eligibility
  • No radius restrictions; local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Time off requests must be approved by the Nurse Manager
