Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level III NICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years NICU experience and WI or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Work in the NICU of a Level IV Trauma Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI
- 42-bed Level III NICU unit
- Cares for high-risk, critically ill preterm and term newborns requiring multi-system support
- Patient population includes infants on respiratory support (nasal cannula, CPAP, NAVA, conventional and oscillator ventilation, nitric oxide)
- Manages central lines including PICC, UAC, UVC, arterial lines, Broviac, and chest tubes
- Provides NG/PO feedings, IV therapy, vasopressor support, sedation and paralytics, video EEG, and cooling
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3, following AWHONN staffing standards
- EMR: EPIC
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Angel Eye milk tracker, GE B450 cardiac monitoring, Medela feeding pumps, and Artic Sun cooling system
- 12-hour night shift schedule, options for 3x12s (36 hrs) or 4x12s (48 hrs)
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend
- No set schedule; travelers plugged in where needed
- Floating required to Women's Care Center for newborn care only, with travelers floated first
- No on-call requirements
- Rotating holiday coverage based on start date
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required
- Minimum 2 years Level III NICU experience required, no exceptions
- Minimum 12 months of core experience in the specialty within the last year
- Skilled in assessment/reassessment, IV therapy, medication administration, and NG/PO feedings
- EPIC EMR experience required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Collaborate with ancillary departments and parents to provide exceptional, family-centered care to infants
- Support on the unit includes 24/7 charge nurse, respiratory therapy, and neonatologist coverage
- Additional support from a House Supervisor, Women's Health Director, NICU Nurse Manager, and NICU Nurse Educator
- Access to Lactation Consultants, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Case Management, Pharmacy, Dietician, and Chaplain services
- Orientation includes a first-day meeting with the Nurse Manager and Educator followed by unit training
- Second day includes preceptor-led training, with an assigned work buddy and own patient assignment by day three
- Scrub color is open, professional attire required with no denim or camo
- Free parking provided in designated employee areas
- First-time travelers may be considered pending manager approval
- Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before eligibility
- No radius restrictions; local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
- Time off requests must be approved by the Nurse Manager
