Description
American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Telemetry/Med Surg position requiring 1-2 years acute care experience and a WI or compact RN license.
Details
- Med Surg/Telemetry unit (28 beds) within a Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Patient population includes rule-out chest pain, post cath lab, CHF, AFib, rule-out CVA/TIA, post IR, cellulitis, and AKI cases
- Average patient stay of approximately 36 hours with 2-3 admissions/discharges daily
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 (day) and 1:6-8 (night); tech ratios of 1:5 (day) and 1:9 (night)
- Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis, and GE monitors
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with 24/7 tele tech support
- 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to other Med Surg units and ED Holding (1:4 ratio), with travelers floated first
Requirements
- Active RN license (WI or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1-2 years of acute care experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skills in ostomy care, drain management, and IV therapy required
- Experience managing drips including heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone
- Experience with admissions/discharges in a fast-paced environment
- Basic Med Surg skills required; observation unit experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
- At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Support on the unit includes a charge nurse with a lighter patient assignment, 24/7 unit secretary, 24/7 hospitalist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and phlebotomy assistance for peripheral blood draws
- No ventilator or trach patients on this unit; most patients are ambulatory
- Fatigue policy in place limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- Holiday coverage required for one holiday per season, either Christmas Eve/Christmas Day or New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
- Orientation includes 4-8 hours of NEO orientation on dayshift with educator, supervisor, and manager, plus one full shift on the unit
- Schedules created 6 weeks at a time and provided 2 weeks prior to start
- RTO up to 7 days can be approved directly; additional days require manager approval
- Any scrub color accepted except camo or denim
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
- Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
- Free parking available in designated areas
