Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical unit position requiring 1 year of recent experience and offering day shifts on a 32-bed unit.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
• 32-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Day shift schedule (4x12 hours, 6:30-19:00)
• Rapid response team activation as part of unit protocol
• No on-call responsibilities required
• Floating required to like units within scope as needed based on facility needs
• Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
• Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

• Active RN license (New Mexico or Compact) required, pending New Mexico/Compact license accepted if obtained prior to start
• Current BLS certification required, CPI certification preferred
• 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience required
• 1:6 patient ratio experience required
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, and PICC line management
• Respiratory care skills including chest tube management, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care
• Experience with CVA care preferred
• Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge required
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Surgical drain management experience

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply as long as they have at least 24 months of nursing experience
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
• Previous staff members must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Brief unit orientation provided when floating to like units
• Facility is part of a larger health system that includes an affiliated heart hospital
