Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 2+ years of experience and Trauma Level II experience for a night shift position at a large teaching hospital.
Details
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
- Weekend rotation required every third weekend
- Position located within the Respiratory Care unit at a Short Term Acute Care teaching hospital
- Care for adult critical care patients in ICUs and on general floors
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs across service line
- Uses Epic for charting
- Performs airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement/suctioning, tracheostomy care, and sputum specimen collection
- Administers medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex
- Utilizes nebulizer therapy including hand held, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic devices
- Manages oxygen therapy including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Performs ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Requires ABG interpretation skills
- Large hospital campus requiring the ability to walk long distances between units
Requirements
- RRT and BLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT required
- Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I and teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic charting experience required
- Comfortable managing mechanically ventilated patients
- Experience caring for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases
- Ability to walk long distances across a large hospital campus
- Pending license accepted for consideration
- License required if applicable
Additional Information
- Provide respiratory therapy services to adult patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions
- May be asked to precept respiratory therapy students as this is a teaching hospital
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- RTO limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
- Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
- Returning permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period, followed by a required 3-month break in service
- Scrub color required is medium to dark gray
- Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing, or must be shaved with no exceptions
