Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with ECMO Specialist experience for a night shift critical care position supporting both pediatric and adult patients.
Details
- Work in the CVICU and PICU units managing patients requiring ECMO support
- Treat both pediatric and adult patients with diagnoses including post cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and other critical acute illnesses requiring ECMO support
- Manage ECMO devices during bedside cannulation and/or cannula repositioning procedures
- Utilize Cardiohelp ECMO console, Centrimag ECMO console, Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit, and point-of-care glucometer testing
- Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend, subject to change based on need
- Float required between CVICU and PICU units
- Epic EMR system in use
Requirements
- SC RRT license required if applicable
- Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of experience required, including ECMO Specialist experience
- Both pediatric and adult ICU experience required
- Trauma Level I and Trauma Level II experience required
- ECMO specialty device course completion and required CMEs to maintain proficiency
- Minimum 1 year of experience with Epic EMR required
- Experience managing patients on ECMO, including nurse-driven ECMO protocols
- Skills in ECMO circuit priming and circuit changes preferred
- Experience with IV therapy and arterial line management
- Experience with central line care/management and blood product administration preferred
- Experience with Impella and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) preferred
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and management of ventilated patients
- Experience with high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Knowledge of infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE
- Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and LTAC experience preferred
Additional Information
- Work alongside ICU RN and RT staff, specifically responsible for ECMO device management in the ICU following the ECMO order set and provider team direction
- Provide care to both PICU pediatric patients and CVICU adult patients requiring critical extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (heart/lung) support related to cardiac surgery, respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, or trauma
- Support patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Assist with cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring
- Perform phlebotomy and interpret coagulation studies including PT/PTT, INR, and fibrinogen levels
- Support massive transfusion protocol as needed
- Manage patients experiencing thermoregulation issues including hypothermia and hyperthermia
- Care for burn patients as needed
- First-time travelers will only be considered if they have previous ECMO Specialist experience
