Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU position requiring 2 years of experience and comfort managing respiratory support such as CPAP/BiPAP.
Details
- Blended Med-Surg and PCU unit within a hospital setting
- Standard Med-Surg patient ratios are typically 4:1 and PCU ratios are typically 3:1
- Travelers may occasionally be assigned a 5:1 Med-Surg patient load based on unit flexing needs since unionized staff nurses are prioritized for standard ratios
- Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:30) or Night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) available
- R/O positions do not have a set rotating schedule and shift assignment is based on organizational need
- Charge-capable required for night shift
- Float required within the OSU organization as needed
- Uses EPIC for documentation and Omnicell for medication management
Requirements
- Active Ohio RN license or compact license required in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, though candidates with 1 year may be considered pending manager review
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Comfortable with CPAP/BiPAP management and medication titrations
- Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with cardiac drip titration, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and peripheral line management
- Telemetry and IV therapy/phlebotomy experience required
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN (no coworker references accepted)
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care across a blended Med-Surg and PCU patient population, including respiratory, gastrointestinal, and cardiac monitoring needs
- Previous charge experience preferred
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at any Ohio State University hospital location
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting urgently upon signing the contract, either by driving to an in-state location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet if located far from Ohio
