Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical ICU night shift position at a teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of recent ICU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of an academic teaching hospital
- Trauma Level II unit
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
- Schedule includes every Friday night, every Saturday night, plus one additional night per week
- 36 hours per week
- Floating required
- Call required
- Uses Epic for documentation
- Uses Pyxis, Accudose, and Omnicell medication systems
- Uses SBAR for communication
Requirements
- Active Ohio or compact RN license required, in hand at time of consideration
- 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, Burn ICU, or Transplant ICU experience preferred
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic experience preferred
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
- Experience assisting with chest tube insertion/removal and managing BiPAP/CPAP and ventilated patients
- Experience with high flow nasal cannula and interpretation of ABGs
- Experience with acute/chronic renal failure management
- Skilled in continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation monitoring, and titrating vasoactive drips
- GI surgery care experience
- Skilled in infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, and phlebotomy
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience managing multisystem organ dysfunction/failure patients
- IV insulin protocol experience
- Experience with post-neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care
- Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience preferred
- Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership role and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to surgical and trauma ICU patients including those with multisystem organ dysfunction
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
- Requested time off must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing the contract to remain compliant with credentialing timelines
