Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med Surg/Stepdown position requiring 2 years of med surg experience and comfort with frequent floating between units.

Details

• Work in the MedSurg unit with frequent floating to PCU/Stepdown and other MS/Tele units
• Patient population includes cardiovascular, respiratory, GI, GU/renal, and neuro/psych cases
• Stepdown ratios of 1:4-5 and MedSurg ratios of 1:5-6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 07:15
• Weekday schedule with every other weekend required
• Floating required within the hospital as needed
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• Uses Meditech EMR system

Requirements

• Active SC RN license or compact license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of med surg nursing experience required
• Stepdown/PCU experience required due to frequent floating
• Skilled in IV starts and maintenance
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and telemetry preferred
• Meditech charting experience preferred
• Comfort with high patient-to-caregiver ratios and frequent floating required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across MedSurg, Stepdown/PCU, and Telemetry units as needed
• Skills utilized may include central line care, PICC line management, chest tube management, wound care, and cardiac drip titration
• Pediatric experience is not required, as travelers without this experience will not be assigned pediatric patients
• Facility floating policies comply with Joint Commission standards, including appropriate orientation to new units
• Scrubs are not provided; royal blue and white scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must not live within 50 miles of the facility
• No local candidates accepted
• Previous employees must have been gone for at least 1 year and in good standing at time of departure to be considered
• Facility will not accept candidates with license or background issues
• RTO must be approved prior to assignment start with minimal to no time off requested, especially in the first weeks of the assignment
