Description

American Traveler is hiring a Level II Trauma-experienced ER RN for a night shift assignment at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring NM or compact RN licensure and prior travel or Level 1 trauma experience.

Details

• Emergency Department at a Level I Trauma, teaching hospital with 554 staffed beds
• Approximately 60%-80% of ED patients are admitted, with many rooms used as ED Holding
• Night shift, 4x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• 36 or 48 hour contracts available, with 48 hours only for travelers with both Level 1 trauma and travel experience
• Weekend shifts scheduled as needed, with weekend days defined as Saturday and Sunday and weekend nights as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Floating to Peds ED is optional; floating to Adult PCUs is expected based on staffing needs; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma as needed
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Increased number of admit holds currently being seen

Requirements

• Active RN license (New Mexico or Compact) required; may pend at time of submission
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC (TNCC must be obtained prior to submission)
• RQI certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; candidates with 1.5-2 years may be considered
• Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
• Prior travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with 2+ years of Level 1 trauma experience without travel experience may be considered
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with trauma and resuscitation required
• Non-local candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius and have a non-local driver's license on file

Additional Information

• Administer medications including IV medications following the seven rights of medication administration
• Document and communicate clinical findings
• Provide trauma and resuscitation care within a Level I Trauma, STEMI, and Stroke Certified facility
• Care for patients with conditions including CVA, neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, gunshot wounds, and traumatic amputations
• Black scrubs required, not provided by facility
• No parking fees
• Must work 2 of the following 3 holiday bundles: Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve and New Year's Day
• Christmas RTO is not permitted
• Maximum RTO of 7 days preferred, with 1 holiday preferred; RTO exceeding 7 days requires approval
• No RTO permitted during the first 7 days or last day of the contract
• Facility may call off shifts up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
• First-time travelers may be considered only if they have 2+ years of Level 1 trauma experience; travel experience is strongly preferred
• COVID vaccine is optional, but candidates must upload vaccination series or a declination for facility reporting purposes
• Former employees must have a 12-month separation from staff employment before starting a travel assignment
• Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark require a 6-month system break
• New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks in length
