Description
American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical RN for a 13-week night shift assignment on a neurosurgery unit requiring 2 years of experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
- Assignment length is 13 weeks
- Neurosurgery unit specializing in pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients
- Secondary unit for general neurology and stroke patients
- Patient ratios of 1:4-6
- Manages intermittently drained lumbar and surgical drains
- Unit does not manage titratable drips (except Heparin), tracheostomy/total laryngectomy, EVDs, fresh TPA administration, or arterial lines
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within service line
- Uses EPIC charting system
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Experience with medication administration and Heparin
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
- Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy and peripheral line care/management
- Neurological/psychiatric and pre/post neurosurgery experience required
- Experience managing surgical drains required
- EPIC charting experience preferred
- First-time travelers not accepted for this role
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Facility is a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Local candidates are not accepted
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
- All RTO must be finalized at time of submission with no additional requests afterward
- Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
- Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
- Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
