Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical RN for a 13-week night shift assignment on a neurosurgery unit requiring 2 years of experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
• Assignment length is 13 weeks
• Neurosurgery unit specializing in pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients
• Secondary unit for general neurology and stroke patients
• Patient ratios of 1:4-6
• Manages intermittently drained lumbar and surgical drains
• Unit does not manage titratable drips (except Heparin), tracheostomy/total laryngectomy, EVDs, fresh TPA administration, or arterial lines
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required within service line
• Uses EPIC charting system

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Experience with medication administration and Heparin
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills required
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy and peripheral line care/management
• Neurological/psychiatric and pre/post neurosurgery experience required
• Experience managing surgical drains required
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• First-time travelers not accepted for this role

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to pre- and post-operative cranial and spinal surgery patients
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Facility is a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Local candidates are not accepted
• Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• All RTO must be finalized at time of submission with no additional requests afterward
• Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
• Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
