Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Level III NICU position requiring a CA RN license, 2 years of NICU experience, and prior travel nursing experience
Details
- >Level III NICU with approximately 190 births per month
- 13-week assignment with day shift schedule (3x12 hours, 6:00 AM-6:30 PM)
- Patient ratio of 1:2-3
- No floating to like units required within the immediate unit
- No on-call responsibilities
- Weekend rotation of every other weekend, though may exceed to meet unit needs
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Uses Epic charting system
- Care for neonates across gestational ages, including <24-28 weeks, 29-34 weeks, and >34 weeks
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required (Compact license must be in hand at time of consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year in NICU specialty required
- Prior travel nursing experience required (candidates with 2+ years of NICU experience may be considered without travel experience)
- Community hospital experience required
- Required certifications: BLS and NRP Advanced (candidates willing to obtain advanced NRP before start may be considered)
- PALS certification required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Skills required include IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, and neonatal dosage calculations
- Experience with neonatal emergency medications, anti-seizure medications, antibiotics/antivirals, and steroids required
- Competency in respiratory support including CPAP, HFNC, high frequency ventilation, and ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP) required
- Experience with APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, phlebotomy, and patient/family teaching required
- Knowledge of neonatal sepsis, isolation precautions/PPE, and infectious disease management required
- 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required, from a comparable specialty/setting
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive neonatal intensive care to a diverse patient population ranging from extremely premature to late preterm infants
- Support high-risk deliveries and provide care within a Level III NICU setting
- Perform specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture assistance, PICC line management, and therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) care when applicable
- Provide breastfeeding support and manage feedings including bottle, breast, and gavage methods
- Assist with management of conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), neonatal abstinence syndrome, and seizure disorders
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs; L&D/OR scrubs provided by facility
- Free parking available on-site
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront at time of consideration; post-offer RTO requests may not be granted
- Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the region; refusal to float may result in termination of assignment
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position unless candidate has 2+ years of NICU experience
- Former permanent employees must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must not live within 50 miles of the facility
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius may be accepted at a lower bill rate
- Facility does not accept candidates with Nursys or background check hits
