Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for an outpatient cancer clinic position requiring at least one year of current oncology nursing experience and a SD or compact RN license.
Details
- Outpatient oncology clinic setting within a Medical Oncology department
- Patient population includes adults 18+ with medical oncology/hematology needs, including pre- and post-transplant BMT patients
- Sees approximately 15-25 patients per day with CA support
- Schedule consists of 4 shifts of 10 hours each, 0700-1730, with day off based on weekly clinic needs
- No weekend shifts and no on-call requirements
- No major holiday coverage required, though minor holidays when the clinic is open will be scheduled
- Routine floating to work with different physicians within Medical Oncology, with occasional floating to other clinics outside Medical Oncology
- Uses Epic Ambulatory as the charting system
Requirements
- Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- ONS certification required
- OCN certification preferred
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of current oncology experience required
- Completion of an approved nursing education program required
- Epic Ambulatory experience required
- Prior clinic experience required, including rooming patients, vital signs, review of systems, medication reconciliation, and weight measurement
- Experience as first assist and chaperoning for provider exams and procedures in a clinic setting
- Must have completed at least one prior 13-week travel assignment (first-time travelers not accepted)
- Permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining orders, processing patients for infusions, chart checks, procedure set-up, and referral review
- Support on the unit includes department leadership, CA, charge nurse, and a team lead resource, with chemo nurses handling port access and blood draws
- Physician team consists of 7 medical oncologists, each typically supported by an ARNP
- Department orientation typically lasts 5 days, subject to change based on skillset and comfort level
- Time off may be approved for up to 7 days (excluding holidays) if the traveler is willing to extend the contract to accommodate
- Navy blue scrubs required for nursing staff
- Free parking available onsite
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
