Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain, and Stroke Center teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases (fractures, head trauma), post-op surgeries, and med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg and telemetry units in the hospital
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Central telemetry monitoring team available
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova glucose stat strips, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP/Hemovac drains, and PCA pain management systems

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Medical-Surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Telemetry RN experience required
  • Experience in Level 1 Trauma or teaching hospital setting preferred
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Experience with insulin and heparin drips, glucommander, and cardiac drip titration for HR
  • Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills
  • Experience with wound care, post-op monitoring, and discharge planning, particularly for renal and fluid management
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive med-surg and telemetry nursing care within a fast-paced, team-oriented unit culture
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Participate in discharge planning and patient education, particularly around renal and fluid management
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
  • No radius rule for local candidates in GA facilities, with the same rate applying regardless of distance
