Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a night shift assignment requiring NIHSS certification and 1 year of recent experience.
Details
- Work on a 32-bed Medical Surgical Neuro unit within a hospital setting
- Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 18:30-7:00)
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6
- Participates in rapid response team activation
- Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within 6 weeks
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to like units within scope as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
- Active RN license (New Mexico or Compact) required, pending compact accepted if obtained prior to start
- Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; CPI preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
- First-time travelers accepted with minimum 24 months of nursing experience
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management
- Experience with PICC line management and starting/maintaining IVs
- Respiratory care skills including chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), HFNC, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
- Experience with colostomy/ileostomy care and feeding tube management
- CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident) care experience preferred
- Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
- Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Surgical drain management experience
Additional Information
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and neurological nursing care to patients
- Receive brief orientation when floating to other units
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as locals are not accepted
- Former staff members must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- No travel pairs or groups accepted for this position
