Description
American Traveler is hiring a Nights RN for a Stepdown unit requiring strong MedSurg Stepdown experience, drip titration skills, and telemetry strip interpretation.
Details
- Work in the 8 Southeast Stepdown unit of an acute care hospital with 32 beds
- Care for post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients
- Patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown assignments and 1:4 for combo assignments (2 stepdown/2 floor or 3 stepdown/1 floor patients)
- Titrate drips per MD-ordered parameters including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix (no vasopressors)
- No ventilators on the unit, but BiPap and tracheostomy care required
- Interpret and chart patient telemetry rhythm with assessment every 4 hours or more frequently with medication titration
- Centralized telemetry monitoring available at the nurses' station with in-room monitors as well
- Unit supported by 1 Charge Nurse and 3 House Supervisors in-house, plus 3-4 CNAs per shift
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, weekend nights (Friday-Sunday), 7p-730a
- Weekend requirement of 3 shifts in a 4-week schedule (Sat, Sun, Sat)
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating is very rare
Requirements
- Active RN license (West Virginia or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience required, including drip titration and telemetry strip reading skills
- BSN not required
- Must provide an unexpired copy of driver's license for consideration
- COVID vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions available through approval process)
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level nursing care to post-surgical thoracic and medicine patients
- Interpret and document telemetry rhythms as part of routine patient assessments
- Complete 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Holiday coverage required if needed
- Royal blue scrub color required
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible for the travel position
- Previous perm employees must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers
- Previous travelers who completed a full year must take a 2-year break before returning
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
