Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position within a float pool, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and GA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in a float pool capacity across all inpatient Med/Surg and Telemetry units at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Each Med/Surg unit has 20-36 beds
  • Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common med-surg co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • 12-hour day shifts (7A-7P) with a 40-hour work week on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of every 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Required to float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
  • Central telemetry monitoring unit supports cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred and traveler must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty unit, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Certification in Med-Surg is a plus
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander use, strong assessment and time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
  • Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (excluding sheath pulls)
  • Experience titrating drips required: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across Med/Surg and Telemetry units including cardiac drip titration and post-cath monitoring
  • Facility is a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center status
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules, plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including one shift each for Thanksgiving or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • RTO requests must be submitted through and approved by the unit manager
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid parking deck options also available
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • GA facilities accept local candidates with no radius rule, offering the same rate for local travelers
  • Returning travelers must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
