Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of RN experience with 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience and prior successful travel contract history.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting caring primarily for stroke, neurosurgery, and other neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy, subdural hematomas, and related conditions
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• 42 daily census with 43 rooms/beds on the unit
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), though travelers are not typically utilized there unless trained
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
• Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
• 36 or 48 hour work weeks accepted
• Every other weekend work required
• Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units, with frequent floating possible
• Uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR systems

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts prior to applying; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Skills required: IV start and telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Med/Surg neuro experience required
• Stepdown/PCU experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care primarily for stroke and neuro patients including epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and related diagnoses
• Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration
• Unit orientation is 36 hours with weekly orientation scheduling
• Navy scrubs required
• If a scheduled RTO falls on a weekend, contract end date will be extended to make up missed shifts
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
• Current travel or per diem clinicians must choose one assignment type and cannot hold both simultaneously
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved excluding holidays; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Any additional call-offs or RTO beyond approved allowances may result in cancellation
