Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience and an active NC or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a Cardiac Telemetry unit within a Rapid Response setting
  • Unit types include PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown with acuity-based ratios of 1:4 for surgical stepdown and 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients
  • Care for patients with diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, and carotid stenosis
  • Support special procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO/Watchman, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, and other cardiac/thoracic surgeries
  • Utilize specialized equipment such as arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
  • Uses EPIC for documentation, Pyxis for medication management, and SBAR for communication
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, working 36 hours per week
  • Contract length ranges from 13-26 weeks
  • Weekend requirement of 4 shifts per 4-week period (flexible)
  • Floating required per unit rotation, though not first to float
  • May be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
  • First-time travelers considered only if candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Required skills: cardiac telemetry, sheath removal, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath care, cardiac drip management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), external CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
  • Preferred skills: arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nurse experience
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at consideration)

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive cardiac telemetry care including cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and post-procedural care for cardiac and thoracic surgical patients
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Previous PERM/PRN/EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details, subject to facility approval
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units
  • Candidates must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • All RTO requests must be pre-approved and cannot be added after signing
  • Every candidate will be interviewed by the hiring manager before an offer is made
