Description
American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool position requiring 2 years of PICU experience and a VA or compact RN license.
Details
- Float pool position at a teaching hospital, covering PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, pediatric PACU, pediatric ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby units
- Day shift schedule (4x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
- 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Epic EMR experience required
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Must adhere to facility float policy across scope of practice
Requirements
- Active RN license (VA or Compact) required; pending licenses accepted if in hand by the Wednesday before start date
- Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS
- Dr. Brown's Infant Driven Feeding Certificate required (may submit with certification pending)
- Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
- Must be comfortable with NICU, acute pediatrics, and pediatric ED patient populations
- Prior travel experience required, though candidates with previous NICU/PICU float pool experience will be considered
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Epic charting system experience required
- BSN preferred
- Pediatric PACU experience highly preferred
- Community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing support across multiple pediatric units as part of a float pool team
- Float within scope of practice as needed based on clinical experience
- Maximum of 40 hours RTO per 13-week contract; no RTO approved during the first 2 weeks of the assignment
- Any planned time off between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
- Specialty-specific modules completed during orientation, up to 16 non-billable hours
- Previous UVA Health permanent staff or traveler employment requires 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility, and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
- Candidates with previous NICU/PICU float pool experience will be considered even without direct travel experience
- First-time travelers may be considered given relevant float pool background
