Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Tele unit position requiring TX or compact RN license and at least 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience.
Details
- Work in the Med/Tele unit (K3) of an acute care rural hospital
- 25-bed unit with patient ratios of 5-6:1
- Patient population includes CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and med/surg tele diagnoses
- RNs must be able to read telemetry strips while tele monitor techs monitor patients
- RNs are responsible for titrating Heparin drips
- PCTs present on the unit at a 12:1 ratio
- Care for patients on CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
- Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
- Uses Paragon charting system, transitioning to Epic on 10/30/2026
- 12-hour day shifts from 6:30a to 7p
- Scheduled for 36 hrs/week or 36/48 hrs biweekly, with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to all med/surg units and possibly to PCU for tele holds prior to transfer
- Block scheduling cannot be accommodated as scheduling is set by the unit manager based on facility needs
Requirements
- Active TX or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience required
- Rural hospital experience preferred
- Strong communication and time management skills required
- Must be able to read telemetry strips
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

- Provide direct patient care on a busy telemetry unit within a rural hospital that relies heavily on travelers
- Work alongside a stable, long-tenured leadership team, though staff continuity can vary
- Contribute to a collaborative team caring for the local community
- Unit orientation includes 2 shadow/orientation shifts within the med/surg tele Kurth tower
- Navy blue scrubs required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
