Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position at an academic medical center, requiring recent ECMO experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

• Float pool position covering ICUs, TCUs, ED, and PACU across the facility and network
• Cares for complex critical care patients including those on ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, CRRT, and PA Catheters
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts on a 3x12 schedule (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30)
• Schedule cycles run 4 weeks and may alternate between day and night shifts based on need
• May float to other network facilities and departments within a 75+ mile radius
• Epic charting system preferred

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BSN required
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Minimum 4 years of recent ICU experience required
• ECMO experience within the last 6 months to 1 year required, including bedside RN management without dedicated perfusion support
• CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience required
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Teaching hospital/academic medical center experience preferred
• Completed travel assignment within the past 12 months required
• Travel nursing experience of 1 year or less within the past 5 years required
• Ability to independently manage complex critical care patients
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Experience with VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT (NxStage), IABP (Teleflex), Impella, and ventricular assist devices strongly preferred
• Experience with heart/lung transplant recovery, bridge to transplant, and cardiogenic shock strongly preferred
• Ability to simultaneously manage multiple support devices (e.g. ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella, ECMO + IABP) highly desirable
• Two references from most recent employer required for consideration
• Completed references required at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Function within an integrated critical care (ICC) model spanning cardiovascular, transplant, and multi-organ support therapies
• Assessed on broad competency including cardiovascular critical care, transplant care, and mechanical circulatory support, not ECMO experience alone
• Any prior employment history with University of California medical facilities or their acquired facilities must be disclosed, including dates worked, units, and manager names for rehire eligibility review
• All requested time off must be disclosed at time of offer and approved by the manager; no additional RTO requests accepted mid-contract, and RTO cannot fall within the first two weeks of the assignment
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Travel pairs allowed but generally not placed on the same unit; married couples may not work on the same unit
