Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring an active Michigan RN license and at least 1 year of ICU experience.

Details

  • MICU setting with a mix of ICU and PCU patients
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 4:1 based on acuity
  • Vent patients maintained at a 2:1 ratio
  • Cooling, CRRT, or high acuity patients maintained at a 1:1 ratio
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating required to other ICU and Med-Surg units as census flexes, with travelers floating in rotation with staff RNs
  • Typical Med-Surg float ratios are approximately 5-6 patients per RN
  • Unit manages an average of 3 ventilated patients per day
  • Epic charting system experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (NIHSS must be renewed annually)
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy including arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Skilled in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning
  • Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and management of chronic/acute renal failure
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction
  • Experience with CVA/acute stroke management
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols
  • GI surgery experience
  • Proof of flu vaccination required, or exemption request submitted within 48 hours of signing
  • Supervisor-level references required

Additional Information

  • Facility is designated as a Primary Stroke Destination by the Joint Commission
  • Travelers are prioritized to float first
  • Must be available for the entire orientation week and the first 8 days of the assignment
  • RTO limited to no more than 10 days during the assignment
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous internal travelers may return after 6 months and previous permanent staff after 1 year
  • Special equipment used includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and CRRT machines
  • Special procedures performed include CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
  • Common patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
