Description
American Traveler is hiring a CVICU RN with at least 2 years of CVPICU/PICU experience for a night shift position requiring CA licensure.
Details
- work in the Cardiovascular Pediatric ICU (CVPICU) of a children's hospital
- highly variable patient population that is mostly surgical, with a large majority being infants and varying acuity levels
- unit utilizes ECMO with dedicated technicians running the pumps
- specialized procedures and equipment include Nitric Oxide, pacemakers, chest tubes, and invasive monitors
- performs bedside procedures such as chest tube placement and cardioversions
- uses Cerner documentation system
- night shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- requires 4 weekend shifts per month with some holiday coverage in rotation with regular staff
- floating required, prioritized to PICU or NICU first, then to Pediatric M/S Onc floor as needed
- no floating to ED or Mental Health units
- no on-call requirements
Requirements
- active California RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- minimum 2 years of CVPICU/PICU experience required
- current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
- CCRN certification preferred
- prior travel nursing experience preferred, though strong candidates with 2+ years of experience may be considered as first-time travelers
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, administration of blood and blood products, arterial line management, central line/implanted line care, and PICC line management
- experience with emergency medications, antiarrhythmics, continuous sedation, and IV vasopressors required
- pediatric dosage calculation skills required
- respiratory skills required including intubation assistance/management and ventilator management for ventilated patients
- cardiovascular skills required including CVP monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and post cardiac surgery/pacemaker insertion care
- ECMO experience preferred
- experience with post-acute abdominal surgery and post-neurosurgery care required
- experience with post-op day 2 surgical recovery required
- two supervisor-level or above references required, from the applicable unit and dated within 1 year of start date or from most recent employer
Additional Information
- provide direct nursing care to critically ill pediatric cardiovascular patients, including surgical and post-surgical cases
- travelers are prioritized for floating assignments per facility policy
- up to 16 hours of orientation modules may be required, varying by specialty
- maximum of 7 days RTO permitted, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
- local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
- former staff must be separated for at least 1 year before reapplying to travel positions
- candidates previously marked as do-not-return from Rady Children's will not be considered for this position due to health system merger
- return CHOC travelers previously cancelled from Rady's require leadership review for rehire eligibility
