Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma ICU night shift position requiring a NE or compact RN license and at least 2 years of critical care experience.

Details

  • Work in the Trauma ICU (TICU) of an acute care hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in the system
  • 18-bed unit caring for adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
  • Treats various trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest patients, including many transfers and ED admits
  • Uses CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, ICP monitoring, EV-1000, Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser
  • RNs required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Draeger heart monitors with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • Charge nurse present each shift and takes an assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1830-0630
  • Self-scheduling managed by the unit manager based on unit needs
  • Required to work 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
  • Floating required to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
  • EPIC EMR used

Requirements

  • Active RN license, Nebraska (NE) state or Compact (NLC), in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Trauma or critical care experience strongly preferred given Level 1 trauma center setting
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Driver's license required for consideration to verify residence for radius eligibility

Additional Information

  • Deliver critical care nursing to trauma, medical, and surgical ICU/PCU patients in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and teamwork
  • 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided, plus 12 hours of general orientation
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
  • Pass/fail skills exam given during orientation on Friday; open-book format with resources provided, 90% passing score required
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, and must not have been directly employed by such facilities within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront for the 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved after submission
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Manager interview required for consideration
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment
