Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Neuro Nights position requiring NIHSS certification and 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience.
Details
- Work in the Medical Surgical Neuro unit of a hospital environment
- 32-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:30-7:00)
- 36 or 48 hour scheduling options, with anything over 48 hours considered overtime
- Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating to like units required based on facility needs, with brief orientation provided
- Rapid response team activation as part of unit duties
- Uses Epic for charting
Requirements
- Active RN license (New Mexico or Compact) required, must be obtained prior to start
- Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required; Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
- First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 24 months of nursing experience
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience with respiratory care including chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
- Experience with GI care including colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management
- Neurological experience including CVA care preferred
- Medication administration experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Wound care and wound vac experience
- Renal care experience including pre/post hemodialysis management
- Surgical drain management experience
Additional Information
- Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg Neuro patients, including isolation precautions and PPE compliance
- Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
- Former staff members must wait 1 year before returning in a travel role
- No travel pairs or groups accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply if minimum experience requirements are met
