Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care unit requiring 2 years of specialty experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

  • Acute Care Med/Surg unit within a 483-bed hospital
  • 14-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
  • Patient population includes diabetic, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, and dialysis patients
  • Also treats overflow post-surgical, amputation, debridement, wound care, DVT, ETOH, and psych patients
  • Common medications administered include Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin
  • CPAP used on unit, with BiPAP used only on night shift
  • Support staff includes CNAs at approximately 1:12 ratio, who may be pulled for 1:1 or sitter duties
  • LPNs and LPN-Cs also staff the floor
  • Uses MEDITECH EMR charting system
  • 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p with clock-in window of 6:45-7:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • Schedule rotates with permanent staff
  • Floating required to acute care, cardio, or EC units to support medical or acute care patient holds
  • 48 guaranteed hours per week over a 24-week assignment
  • 16 hours of orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA state or compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required in Med/Surg specialty
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment required
  • Experience at a large, high-acuity, high-turnover, fast-paced organization required (no Critical Access Hospital experience)
  • Strong focus on patient satisfaction, quality of care, and patient safety required
  • Nails may only be polished; no artificial or shellac nails permitted due to CLABSI risk reduction

Additional Information

  • Provide primary care nursing to a diverse medical-surgical patient population
  • Nurses are not required to read telemetry strips, as monitoring is conducted on a separate unit
  • Approved scrub colors include Caribbean blue top and bottom, white top with Caribbean blue bottom, or all white top and bottom
  • Strict attendance policy in place, along with a no-bags-at-the-nurses-station rule (lockers with personal locks permitted)
  • Must reside outside a strict 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the hospital within the last 12 months
  • Cancellation policy requires 12 hours notice every 2 weeks
