Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week Days contract requiring NE or compact RN licensure and BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Work in a 33-bed ICU within an acute care hospital with a Trauma Level 2 designation
- Average daily census of 16 patients with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3 for adults
- Care for trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress patients
- Titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
- Manage patients on respiratory support ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Read, interpret, and document telemetry strips using GE monitors with tele tech oversight
- Supported by nurse aides and a Healthcare Support tech (M-F, 0800-1630) based on census
- 12-hour Day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg at similar patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- On-call staff must arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
- One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required, pending certifications not accepted
- BSN not required for this position
- Acute care ICU experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residency
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
Additional Information
- Provide direct ICU nursing care including drip titration, ventilator management, and telemetry monitoring for a complex adult patient population
- Pass a Pass/Fail open-book exam on Wednesdays during orientation, requiring a 90% score based on skills covered in orientation resources
- Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract time frame must be covered
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
- Candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Self-scheduling applies to core staff, with travelers added into the schedule as needed
- Block scheduling and shared schedules for duos are not approved unless weekends only
