Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Observation Unit position requiring telemetry skills and prior stepdown or med-surg experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting within a 31-bed combined Stepdown and Floor unit (OBS 6N/6C)
- Patient population includes MedSurg, Cardiac, IDDM, COPD, Trauma, Ortho, ENT, Urology, and pain management cases
- Patient ratios of 1:3 on Stepdown and 1:5-6 on the Floor
- Uses EPIC EMR
- Telemetry monitoring available on the unit with dedicated tele techs, though RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
- RNs required to titrate drips in Stepdown and manage Heparin drips on the Floor
- No ventilator management on this unit; RT support available in-house 24/7
- Charge Nurse present on each shift with House Supervisor coverage 24/7
- Nursing aide support of 3-4 staff for 31 patients
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a)
- Every other weekend (EOW) requirement
- Holiday coverage may be required as needed
- Charge Nurse opportunities available
- Scrub color requirement: Royal Blue
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Acute care hospital experience required
- Experience with telemetry strip interpretation required
- Experience titrating drips, including Heparin, required
- Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across Stepdown and Floor unit acuity levels, including monitoring, drip titration, and telemetry interpretation
- Work collaboratively with Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, nursing aides, and in-house RT support
- Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility per driver's license address
- Previous perm employees must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers
- Previous travelers who completed a full year at this health system must take a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers are limited to a maximum of one year of cumulative work within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
- Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
- Extension requests cannot be made until a traveler is within 45 days of their current end date
