Description
American Traveler is hiring a Progressive Care Unit RN for a Level 2 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of PCU/telemetry experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Progressive Care Unit / Med-Tele float pool at a 361-bed Level 2 Trauma teaching hospital with a residency program
- Facility includes a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- PCU/HAU patient ratio is 1:3
- Patients include cardiac, neuro, pulmonary, ortho, trauma, and surgical cases requiring cardiac titratable drips and arrhythmia monitoring
- Uses Epic EMR
- Equipment includes Glucommander, cardiac monitors, Precision BBG monitors, specialty beds, bed/chair alarms, BiPap, ventilators, and Alaris pumps
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, 36 hours per week on a 13-week schedule cycle
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- Rare on-call requirement only during low census periods
- Floating required to all Med-Surg and Critical Care areas, including ED boarders, ICU, and ER as needed
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU or telemetry specialty, with most recent experience within the last year
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- CPI certification required (facility will provide if not already obtained)
- PCU skills required including arrhythmia monitoring and knowledge of cardiac titratable drips
- Epic EMR experience
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care for progressive care and telemetry patients across multiple med-surg and critical care units
- Support staff includes CNAs/nurse techs, respiratory therapists, phlebotomists, an educator, staffing specialist, safety sitters, Virtual Patient Observers, Virtual RN, and security
- Department culture emphasizes teamwork, prompt response to call lights and telemetry alerts, and mutual support among staff
- Orientation includes one week of facility-wide NEO (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm) followed by 2-3 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 70% of holidays
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking provided
- First-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred
- No radius rule applies for GA facilities; local candidates receive the same rate as travelers
- Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved in advance if participating in clinical interviewing and extending the contract
